Race for COVID-19 Vaccine among Cigarette Manufacturers

British American Tobacco (BAT), has claimed that it is ready to test its potential COVID-19 vaccine on humans

Race among big brands like Dunhill and Marlboro intensified for making a vaccine for COVID-19.

British American Tobacco (BAT), has claimed that it is ready to test its potential COVID-19 vaccine on humans after it generated a positive immune response in pre-clinical trials.

Manufacturer of famous brand Dunhill, British American Tobacco said in a statement: “In April, BAT announced that its biotech subsidiary, Kentucky BioProcessing (KBP), was developing a potential vaccine for COVID-19. Since then, we have been completing pre-clinical testing and are pleased to report the potential vaccine has been shown to produce a positive immune response. As such, the vaccine candidate is now poised to progress to the next stage which will be Phase 1 human clinical trials pending FDA authorisation.” (complete statement here)

Phillip Morris is also in the race of making a vaccine for COVID-19 treatment. In a statement PMI said:”Medicago has made significant progress toward producing an experimental plant-based vaccine for COVID-19.”

Manufacturer of another famous brand Marlboro, Philip Morris in a statement said their affiliated company will start pre-clincal trial of COVID-19 vaccine soon. (complete statement here). “Medicago, which is part-funded by Philip Morris International (PMI), said it’s ready to start preclinical testing for safety and efficacy, anticipating the beginning of human trials later this summer,” Philip Morris said in a media statement.
