Cement Price Scandal: SECP Says “Investigation Continues”

Islamabad (Business Reporter): Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan said investigation against cement companies has not been shelved and a report will be submitted to the Prime Minister very soon.

Cement sector increased prices up to PKR 60 per bag just after the announcement of a relief package for the construction sector. Construction sector protested on a sudden jump in the cement prices as it had increased their cost. Prime Minister took notice and ordered an inquiry.

However, rumors were floated on Friday that inquiry against the cement companies has been shelved now. When this correspondent asked SECP, a spokesman denied such reports. He said inquiry has not been stopped at all and a report will be submitted in coming weeks.
